Proven Neurological Expertise

Guillain-Barre’ Syndrome starts with a little nudge to the nervous system. You notice a bit of tingling in your toes. Some numbness in your feet. Ails you could easily attribute to too tight shoes.
Then things get scary. Your limbs go limp as a consuming paralysis marches toward your torso, threatening the very muscles that move air in an out of your lungs. In a matter of hours you can be flat on your back and relying on machines to breathe.

While Guillain-Barre’ Syndrome is rare—affecting only one or two people per 100,000—Methodist has treated 26 GBS patients since 2000.

GBS is just one of a wide range of neurological diseases and disorders which cause problems with movement, speech, swallowing, breathing, learning, memory or mood.

A team of physicians, researchers and neuropsychologists at Methodist work hand-in-hand with physical, occupational and speech therapists and certified rehabilitation nurses to treat more patients suffering neurological problems than any other hospital in Mississippi.

Methodist offers the most comprehensive treatment of a wide range of neurological disorders—from brain injury to West Nile virus—giving this hospital the proven expertise no one else can offer.
