Bike Crossing’s Mayhem Century Ride to benefit stroke research at Methodist Rehab
On June 10, The Bike Crossing of Ridgeland will host its 6th annual Mayhem Century Ride, a benefit for Methodist Rehabilitation Center’s Wilson Research Foundation.
“This is a charity ride for a great cause, and it’s for cyclists of all levels,” said Linda Bartley, co-owner of The Bike Crossing.
Riders may choose from four distance options: 25, 50, 62 or 100 miles through the beautiful countryside of Madison County past Lake Cavalier, Lake Lorman, Mt. Leopard, Flora and beyond depending on the chosen distance.
Proceeds will support Methodist Rehab Center’s Wilson Foundation and its new Neuro Robotics Lab to help patients restore lost motor function after stroke. Funds raised will be presented in honor of Robert Bartley, who suffered a stroke in 2013.
“The Bike Crossing has raised $48,000 to date for the Wilson Foundation,” said Chris Blount, foundation director. “This is a wonderful local bike store that believes in giving back to the community, and we very much appreciate being their chosen charity for this event.”
Organizers expect 250 to 300 cyclists at this year’s Mayhem ride. Food, ice-water and Gatorade will be served by more than 50 Methodist Rehab Center research scientists, nurses and therapists at costume-themed rest-stops.
“Our Methodist employees work hard to make this event fun and memorable,” Blount said.
